Sonographers

PRC is built for sonographers who want to go further. With 141 ultrasound rooms across the network, a dedicated Ultrasound Academy, and a formal pathway for radiographers to qualify as sonographers, this is one of the most diverse and technically demanding ultrasound environments in WA.

01 — The role at PRC

PRC's sonography caseload covers the full range of ultrasound subspecialties, with referrals from GPs, specialists and hospital emergency departments. You'll develop expertise across multiple areas — or go deep in a specialty you're passionate about — supported by subspecialist radiologists at every step.

Ultrasound subspecialties at PRC:

•        General — abdominal, small parts, thyroid

•        Vascular

•        Musculoskeletal

•        Obstetrics and gynaecology, including 4D

•        Breast

PRC radiologists participate in over 40 MDTs per week across subspecialties including breast, cardiac, obstetrics, oncology and more — and sonographers contribute to the clinical environments that feed those meetings.

02 — Learn & grow

The PRC Ultrasound Academy is a purpose-built training environment — equipped for hands-on learning with state-of-the-art equipment, direct patient access, 1:1 feedback rooms, and direct supervision from experienced sonographers and radiologists.

What the Ultrasound Academy offers:

•        A formal pathway for radiographers to qualify as sonographers

•        Continuing medical education and subspecialty training

•        Support for undergraduate placements — 3rd and 4th year radiology students

•        Research support for advanced degrees — Masters and PhD

PRC also has a formal scholarship programme supporting non-doctor team members to study Medical Imaging, Sonography or Nuclear Medicine at university — funded by PRC.

03 — Where this can take you

The Ultrasound Academy exists precisely because PRC recognises that the best sonographers aren't always the ones who started as sonographers. Julia Conway relocated from New Zealand, joined PRC as a radiographer in 2022, entered the training programme and is now a trainee sonographer. That transition — supported, structured and genuine — is what the Academy was built for.

For experienced sonographers, PRC's research partnerships open doors that most private practice environments don't. The NIF WA Node at Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research provides access to clinical research at a level that's genuinely unusual in private imaging.
